Flipdish AI Phone Agent Clears 10,000 Orders and £230k in UK and Irish Restaurants

The milestone, reported this week, offers the clearest live proof yet that voice AI is earning its keep on the UK high street. And a concurrent $1.5m raise for rival platform Emilia AI suggests the phone-as-revenue-channel thesis is attracting serious capital globally.

The Ringing Phone Problem, Solved

Every operator who has watched a member of staff juggle a ringing landline, a full dining room and a fresh ticket on the pass knows the maths is brutal. Calls drop. Orders walk. Margins shrink. Flipdish, the Dublin-founded restaurant platform with its strongest commercial footprint in the UK and Ireland, reported this week that its AI Phone Agent has now processed more than 10,000 orders for independent restaurants across both markets, generating revenues in excess of £230,000.

The raw number is modest against the scale of UK foodservice. But it is real, audited revenue flowing through a product that did not exist twelve months ago, and that matters.

The product has helped to facilitate over 13,000 orders to date and was created in response to a problem restaurants face consistently: phone orders are still an important source of income. That framing is deliberate. The Flipdish team is not pitching a futuristic gadget. They are patching a gap that costs operators money every service.

How the Agent Works

Flipdish's conversational AI system takes accurate orders, recommends upsells, accepts secure payments, and sends confirmed orders directly to the restaurant's POS or kitchen printer. The system is trained on each venue's own menu and voice, so a caller hears something recognisable rather than a generic bot.

Key benefits include answering multiple calls simultaneously to eliminate missed orders during busy periods, increasing average order value by 15–25% through intelligent upselling, improving order accuracy with systematic confirmation protocols, and reducing labour costs by 10–20 hours per week.

The AI Phone Agent also feeds customer loyalty directly: every phone order contributes to the restaurant's Flipdish rewards programme. The system identifies returning customers, checks their loyalty status, and can recommend customised offers to encourage repeat business.

CEO Conor McCarthy has been consistent about the positioning since he unveiled the product at Dished Live '25 in London last November. "Every missed call is an order lost to the competition," McCarthy said. "Flipdish AI Phone Agent ensures every call is answered, every order captured, and every customer served perfectly, without adding a single shift to the rota."

The Pricing Question

The agent is offered at a monthly rate of €99 per location, though that fee is currently discounted to zero until the end of 2026. A small transaction fee is applied to every order processed through the system.

Zero fixed cost through year-end removes the biggest barrier for independent operators working on tight margins. The transaction fee model also aligns Flipdish's incentive with the operator's: the platform only earns when orders flow.

Flipdish claims 5,000-plus brands on its platform and, unlike marketplace apps that take 20–30% of each order, sells direct-ordering infrastructure for a monthly subscription plus a smaller per-order transaction fee. The difference is structural: Flipdish keeps the operator's customer data and loyalty relationship inside the venue's own ecosystem rather than a third-party marketplace.

Global Capital Follows the Thesis

The Flipdish numbers arrive alongside a broader wave of investment in restaurant AI. Emilia AI, which is building what it describes as a next-generation operating system for restaurants, this month signed a funding round that includes a US$1m pre-seed investment from Prosus Ventures and US$500k from a group of tech-focused angel investors.

Emilia's software connects to cameras restaurants already have, combining what it sees (table status, customer behaviour, staff movement) with data from the point-of-sale system. The agents that power Emilia analyse and act in real time, supporting labour optimisation, theft and fraud prevention, sales training, and operational oversight.

One agent, Coach, flags upsell misses in real time; Sentinel works as antifraud software, catching dishes leaving the kitchen without hitting the till.

An early pilot generated about $300 in additional monthly revenue per table at a cost of $10 per table. A 30-times return on investment claim from a pre-seed startup deserves scepticism, but the underlying architecture, marrying existing CCTV feeds to POS data, is genuinely low-friction to deploy.

The Trademark Signal

The commercial activity mirrors a softening in brand filings. According to AIBD analysis of IPO (TMD) data as of September 2026, UK trademark filings in Class 29 (prepared food products) reached 917 in Q3 2026, down 13.4% on the prior period. Class 29 filings typically track product launches and brand extensions from food operators; a meaningful dip in a quarter when two high-profile restaurant AI platforms are reporting growth suggests operators may be pulling back on new brand creation even as they invest in operational technology. Protecting a new ordering channel costs less than launching a new product line.

What Operators Should Watch

Flipdish plans to develop the AI Phone Agent to handle other customer requests over the phone, including order updates and opening-hours enquiries. The company is also developing additional AI tools to help restaurants receive more orders, reduce manual work, improve decision-making and manage customer relationships.

The direction of travel is clear: voice AI starts at the phone, but the next natural extension is table reservations, dietary queries, and eventually dynamic upselling tied to real-time kitchen capacity. Operators who build the loyalty and data infrastructure now will be better placed when those features arrive.

For now, 10,000 answered calls that might otherwise have gone to voicemail is a result any front-of-house manager would sign off on.
